Particle sizing

Particle sizing is used to determine the size distribution of particles (as solid or liquid particles) in disperse systems. The analysis is used in many areas, since the particle sizes of processed raw materials have a decisive influence on manufacturing processes as well as product characteristics. Within processing operations an analysis can be used for example for process optimization (e.g. for flow rates) or for quality assurance (e.g. when using color pigments).

Depending on the sample matrix different measurement techniques are applicable for particle sizing. Among the used methods are:

  • Laser diffraction
  • Sieve analysis
  • Light microscopy
  • Electron microscopy
